ITC forgoes staff Christmas party to donate $5,000 to Auckland City Mission
14 December 2015
The International Travel College of New Zealand (ITC) has made a generous donation to the Auckland City Mission just in time for Christmas.
Staff across ITC’s two Auckland campuses voted to sacrifice their annual Christmas party in favour of donating the money to those who need it most. A total of $5,000 was given to the Mission late last week.
Although this meant missing out on an elaborate Christmas celebration, 98 per cent of ITC employees were thrilled to be able to do their part for a good cause.
“Given that the Auckland City Mission does a huge amount in the community at this time of year, we felt it was important for the ITC team and students to think about Christmas and about how they could give back in some way or other,” says Claire Huxley, ITC’s Marketing Director.
“I believe Christmas is all about giving. This money is going to a really great cause and will be helping a number of people struggling during the holiday season.”
The Auckland City Mission was incredibly grateful to receive the generous donation. Fundraising Team Leader, Alexis Sawyers, visited the College to meet with the Directors and thank them personally for their charity.
“We are delighted that ITC are supporting the Mission this Christmas. It is incredibly kind of the team and will make such a difference to our work at our busiest time of year,” Alexis said.
Thanks to donations and the generosity of the local community, this year the Mission is on target to provide 3,000 emergency food parcels to families in need, distribute 10,000 presents to children who would otherwise miss out and host 2,000 guests at its Christmas lunch.
“Every donation to our Christmas Appeal will bring us a step closer to reaching our fundraising goal and will help make a meaningful difference to the lives of Auckland families living in desperate need,” the Mission said in a statement.
Those wishing to support the Mission are invited to go to www.becomesomeonesangel.co.nz to make a donation.
