The New Zealand lifestyle costs a lot less than in many countries of the world! Mid range hotels cost between $120 - $160 a night (NZ dollars). A week stay in a homestay may cost only $300. Student accommodation varies in cost from $140 per week for a room in a backpackers or youth hostel, to $280 at the well equipped Railway Campus in Auckland.

Eating out is a great experience, with New Zealand establishing an international reputation for its cuisine. A huge range of restaurants caters to every taste and Auckland has hundreds of bistros, food halls, cafes and restaurants.

A BigMac (the universal measure of any economy!) costs only $1.50 (US dollars).

Eating out generally is relatively inexpensive, with Bistro style meals from $15 and even top class cuisine for less than $40.

All tastes and styles are catered for.
