Courtney

Was an ITC scholarship recipient from Westlake Boys High School, he showed star quality from the beginning.

Courtney joined the team at GO Holidays in the Long Haul Europe & America finals division, issuing vouchers and tickets. After only 3 months he was promoted to reservations—an outstanding achievement!

“I always wanted to work in the Travel and Tourism industry. I really like meeting new people, and I wanted to travel and be involved in helping people travel. After studying travel and tourism at school and the next step was to get some tertiary qualifications. I chose ITC and it was definitely the best choice for me.”

“Gaining computer skills has helped me so much in my job as I use the computer every day. The extra things that I learnt at ITC, such as the importance of the personal presentation and how important it is when you are working in the industry, has made the transition into work easier. Role-plays involving phone conversations helped so much as I am on the phone all the time at work.”

“I am really excited by what I am doing already in the industry. I am learning so much about the attractions/activities and hotels all over the world. The people I work with are great and lots of them are past ITC graduates! It is great to be using what I studied already and I am looking forward to my future in the travel and tourism Industry.”

“The support ITC provided during my courses, and then helping me into a job was fantastic. Learning the phonetic alphabet, three letter codes, computer reservations, and how to deal with different types of people has made settling into my new job so much easier!”

“My days are really full on! The variety of people that I deal with is really interesting." “If you are a ‘people person’ and you want to travel overseas then this industry is definitely for you. The industry ‘famil’ trips are exhausting but heaps of fun! The industry travel discounts are amazing and that has enabled me to travel quite a bit already!”

Rebecca

Joined ITC after finishing her studies at Massey High School. She wanted to work in travel and tourism because it is such an interesting and diverse industry.

“I love working at Vertigo! I meet many different people and everyday is so much fun! The customer service training we had at ITC has been so useful in my current role. I am very confident in dealing with visitors who have English as a second language, and in giving my customers advice on New Zealand attractions.” said Rebecca

“Being involved in the work experience opportunities that ITC offered, such as the Barmy Army programme, helped put what I had learnt into practice. When I started at Vertigo this real life experience helped me feel really confident in dealing with my first customers.”

Sandi

Having studied tourism at Rutherford College, Sandi developed a passion for the travel industry. Joining ITC after school, Sandi gained a wide range of additional skills and knowledge to help her progress towards a great career!

“My role as a reservations agent for Great Sights, FIT & Ski express is great! I create customised packages for clients. I love the variety in this role and never have two requests the same, said Sandi”

Sandi well remembers the academic keys to her success— her customer service training, Galileo and IATA codes. “ITC gave me a great grounding for a successful career and I am thrilled to be using the skills I learnt on a daily basis in my work. What I love most about my job is the satisfaction of doing a great job for my customers. I love to travel and helping other people have a great holiday is a fantastic feeling.”

Monique

Always wanted to work in the tourism industry and joined ITC directly from Glenfield College. Through ITC’s annual industry expo Monique met some of the crew from Aucklands’ high rise attraction, Sky Jump, and ultimately landed her thrill seeking job!

Jumping off a high building is certainly not for everyone! But Monique loves the adrenalin rush she gets when she leaps off the Sky Tower on a regular basis.

“ ITC have taught me heaps about working for an adventure operator like Sky jump. A big part of my role is dealing with people, making sure they are properly briefed before jumping, and answering any questions they might have. We also have our own booking system so computer skills are a must! For a lot of our clients doing a skyjump is a huge personal goal and seeing them achieve that is really special, said Monique”

“The people I work with are heaps of fun and I meet lots of industry people all the time. A big perk of working here is that I get to do the Skyjump up to 10 times a day if I want….and believe me it’s a thrill every time! Being able to get paid for doing something that is so much fun is awesome, and I never have two days the same.”

There are many ex ITC graduates working down at Sky City from the hotel, casino, the many varied tourism attractions and also at the Tourism Auckland office!
