Term 4 2011 update
Farewell seniors!!
Short Courses: Our short course dates for 2012 will be out shortly. Once you receive the dates provisional bookings can be made for next year.
Resources: If you wish to cast an eye over the paper or computer based resources for your tourism classes next year, please contact me and I will be more than happy to come in or mail you some examples. This also applies to any schools lacking accreditation to deliver tourism and wish to access our Distance Learning programme for schools.
2012 classes: A reminder to any seniors that you may come across, that there are still a couple of spaces available for our January intake next year at either campus. There are also a number of spaces available too for the February classes. Students just need to contact us to make an appointment for an interview. PD days: I will be holding a PD day for tourism teachers in term one, which will include a number of site visits and guest speaking opportunities from some of our key industry partners who are very keen to engage with schools.
CATE: Those of you who are attending the CATE conference please come up and say hello to me at our stand and if you see me out at night, nag me for a beer or a wine.

Term 3 2011 update

2012 course start dates. Our course start dates for 2012 course are now available. For further information click here follow this link http://www.itc.co.nz/Course-Options/2012-courses.asp please scroll to the bottom of the page. Prospective students should contact us now to arrange an interview for next year.
Scholarships for 2012. Our scholarship information for 2012 is now out with $10,000 worth of scholarships on offer. You should have now received information on scholarships in the mail. If you have not received the information or require more copies of the flyer please click here Please actively encourage all students to take the time to apply, as each year we are still surprised by small number that actually take the time to apply. They have to be in to win!
Short courses still available for 2011. We have a small number of short course spaces available for term 3 and the next school holidays. If you are interested please contact maata@itc.co.nz
International student pathways. If you wish to dicover possible pathways into travel and tourism training for your international students please do not hesitate to contact ceri@itc.co.nz . We have a number of 1 and 2 year diploma programmes available, which will enable students to pathway into very succesful careers in travel in tourism.
Resources for Travel and Tourism classes. If you are looking to review your options for school resource to use in your travel and tourism classes, please do not hesitate to contact me to arrange to see examples of what we have to offer in both the traditional paper based format and the revolutionary computer based product. The computer based assessment option enables you the teacher more time to complete other tasks as the computer completes the majority of marking for you! Term 2 2011 update
Personal Development Days for Term 2. Friday 8th July for Careers teachers. A number of site visits and guests speakers have been lined up for you to discover more about the exciting career opportunities available in Travel and Tourism. There are 20 spaces available, with a limit of one space per school. Bookings will be on first come first served basis.
Free Auckland City tours – ideal for your Travel and Tourism classes. Stray Travel Ltd are offering 5 free tours of Auckland City. These tours will offer your students an invaluable insight into tourism in Auckland and open their eyes to the huge range of careers available. The tour will be fully guided providing a very informative, fun day for your students. For further information please contact Maata maata@itc.co.nz. These 5 free tours will be based purely on a first come first serve basis and date restrictions do apply.
Careers events and open days. Your careers events invites are now coming in thick and fast. If you have not already done so, please forward your careers event dates to me now to ensure I attend. School Short Course. There are still spaces available on the following short courses this term:
24th June Big Day Out at our City Campus. 1 day course, 2 credits at level 2
18th July (holidays) Aviation short course at our Botany Campus. 5 day course, 4 credits at level 3.
Resources. Just a reminder that we offer a range of resources for the delivery of Tourism in schools. We offer the traditional paper based option and a computer based workbook and assessment package (eBooks). The computer based assessments (eBooks) also offer the added benefit of being computer marked. We have two new units on offer in eBook format:
Demonstrate Knowledge of New Zealand As A Tourist Destination - Unit 18212 [ 8 credits] Level 3
Demonstrate Knowledge Of The Tourism Industry - Unit 23766 [5 credits] Level 3

Term 1 2011 update
Short courses - Our short courses on offer for school students are filling quickly. These courses range from 1 day to a week and a variety of credits are on offer from 2 credits at level 2 to 9 credits at level 3. You can place anywhere between 1 or 20 students at any one time on a course. Please contact Ma'ata to make any bookings maata@itc.co.nz
Open Days - Dates for 2011 have been published and are now listed on our web site.
Careers evenings - Schools careers evenings are starting to come in thick and fast, if you have such an event planned for 2011 and have not informed us as yet, please feel free to e mail ceri@itc.co.nz
Distance learning - If your school is not accredited to deliver travel and tourism but you have students intersted in the subject, please contact us to discover the distance learning options we have available.
School resources - If your school is still looking at their resource options for travel and tourism, please do not hesitate to contact us to see what we have to offer.
PD days - I will be offering separate personal development days for Careers, Gateway, STAR and Travel and Tourism teachers. Further information to follow.

Term 4 2010 update
PD day - We will be holding another PD day for Travel and Tourism teachers during term 4, the date will be announced soon. There will only be 20 spaces available, limited to one space per school and these will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
School resources - Based on feedback from teachers this year we are proposing a number of changes to our school resources for 2011, this will include integrating assessments into the workbooks themselves, thus avoiding any painful repetition of work. We will also be including a variety of extra exercises and games into our teacher resource for you to use in the delivery of each unit. If you would like me to come in and show you the revised paper and computer based workbooks and assessments please do not hesitate to contact me. Remember that the computer based assessments will complete a large amount of the marking for you!!!!
STAR and Gateway - The level of interest in our STAR and Gateway courses this year has been astounding. Based on your feedback this year, we will be tweaking a few minor aspects of these courses and will be forwarding the course outlines and 2011 dates to you shortly.
On campus courses 2011 - Our College course are filling fast for 2011 with one of our January class already full in Botany. There are still some spaces in the City's classes and Botany's class for January. A reminder that there are some classes in February, March and further rolling intakes throughout the year. If you have any students wishing to attend our College in 2011 please ensure they contact us soon for an interview so as they do not miss out.
Awards recognition - A busy month for the all the team at ITC, we we thrilled to received the Excellence in Tourism and Excellence in Customer Service Delivery Awards at the Westpac Manukau Business Awards in mid September, a tribute to Kirsten and all the team at the Botany campus. Having entered and won the New Zealand Tourism Awards before, we were unsure about the new format and as it specifically focussed on Innovation we didn't know how we would fair. We decided to enter and we thrilled to win the ATTTO Education and Training category. So that is now 12 awards in just 6 years!

Term 3 2010 update
Our careers teachers Personal Development day will be held on Tuesday 31st August. The day will include a number of visits to travel and tourism businesses in Auckland and some key industry guest speakers. So if you want to improve your knowledge and understanding of exciting and rewarding careers in the Airline, Travel and Tourism industry this PD day is for you. Numbers are limited and will be based on a first come first served basis. If you have not already received an e mail regarding this please contact me.
Our term 3 Open Days for both our City and Botany campuses are as follows:
Thursday 12th August 10.00am – 7.00pm
Saturday 4th September 9.00am – 12.00pm
Tuesday 28th September 10.00am – 7.00pm
Term 3 is a great time to invite me in to talk to your students interested in a career in travel and tourism. The talk is very much focused on my 8 years experience working in the industry, and feedback from my daily dealings with industry employers in my current careers role with ITC. I can tailor my talks to suit the audience e.g. Assembly, classroom or 1 to 1.
Big Day Out – There are a number of days available in term 3 for this exciting day out at either of our campuses. The students gain an insight into the airline and airport aspect of the business and an understanding of the importance of team work in the airline, travel and tourism industry. The student will complete 2 credits at level 2. Cost of the day is $20 + GST per student. Book now.

Term 1 2010 update
I hope you had a fantastic break and you are ready for what ever 2010 may throw at you. Thank you for sending some wonderful students our way for the January and February intakes, all classes in our Botany and City campuses are now in full swing. If you are aware of any of your ex students still looking at their options for this year, then feel free to pass on our contact details as we have courses starting throughout the year.
Hot News! Our Certificate in Aviation course is now fully NZQA approved and will start in March at our Botany campus in the new purpose built Airport Training Centre.
School resources – orders are coming through thick and fast. Just a reminder that the lead time from order to delivery is 5 working days.
Distance learning— if your school would like to offer tourism but is not accredited to do so please contact me for information on our distance learning packages for schools.
Gateway— our first Gateway course of the year is starting on Monday 15th February at our City campus. If you have any students you wish to place on the course please e mail kerry@itc.co.nz. The first Gateway course at our Botany campus starts on the 22nd March, please e mail me if you wish to place a student on the course.

Seasons Greetings from ITC
As 2009 draws to a close, we know that some of you will still be working and we would like to thank you for your support, it's been great working with you during the year. It's been great hosting so many of your students on campus.
As you are now planning for 2010, here are the dates for the ITC Big Day out and also the Gateway dates.

Term 4 update
Business Awards news
Well a great start to newsletter this term, with our success at the Westpac Manukau Business Excellence awards. The International Travel College of New Zealand won the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre Excellence in Tourism & Hospitality Award.
The full Botany team and some head office staff attended the glamorous awards gala dinner that was held at the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre. “It was a great night,” said ITC Director Karen Houston. “And it was wonderful to be acknowledged for our contribution to an industry we are all so passionate about.”
Scholarship update
The scholarship entries are now coming in at a steady pace, so please remind your students to get their entries in as soon as possible. If you need any further information on this please click here or contact your nearest campus.
Personal Development Days
We will be holding another personal development day for tourism teachers on the 12th November at our City campus. We will be looking at the new units that all schools will need to deliver next year with some feedback from schools who have worked through the new units this year. There will be some hands on experience offered on the new computer based assessments, this unique format of assessments completes the vast amount of marking for you! I have also invited a couple of industry guest speakers along to talk to you about their sector of the travel and tourism industry – these speakers will be different to any used in previous Personal Development days. There will be limited spaces, so at the moment only one space is on offer to each school, please e mail me the attendees details ASAP if you wish to book a spot.
2010 Enrolments
Enrolments for next year are coming in thick and fast, with January’s classes more than half full already. If you have any students interested in starting with us in 2010 we strongly advise they contact us soon to avoid disappointment.
